Delivery to 4 Million U.S. Households in Partnership with Walmart

DroneUp is pleased to announce it’s expanding its delivery operation with Walmart. The complete news story can be found on Walmart’s corporate website here.

Today we are announcing we’ll be expanding our delivery network to 34 sites by the year-end, providing 4 million U.S. households across six states - Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Utah, and Virginia with drone delivery services.

After completing hundreds of deliveries within a matter of months across our existing DroneUp hubs, we’ve seen firsthand how drones can offer a practical solution for getting certain items fast. More importantly, we’ve seen a positive response from Walmart's customers that have used the service. In fact, while Walmart initially thought customers would use the service for emergency items, we’re finding they use it for its sheer convenience, like a quick fix for a weeknight meal. Case in point: The top-selling item at one of our current hubs is Hamburger Helper.

In addition, a significant part of Walmart’s drone delivery hub expansion is offering additional drone services through the hubs.

As reported to DroneLife, Tom Walker, Founder and CEO, stated, “We’ll be able to deploy a drone for aerial inspection, or rapidly deploy drones for a first responder or public safety support in a way that hasn’t been available before. These hubs will be manned and ready to go, with the ability to get a drone in the air in a minute.”

Perhaps most importantly for the drone industry, “These hubs will have a role in demonstrating that drones are good for the communities in which they reside and unleash the potential to demonstrate the ability to manage and operate “at scale.”
